<head>Terms Made After the Battle of Zama</head>The following are the heads of the terms offered<note anchored="yes" place="marg" id="note28">Terms imposed on <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Carthage&groupId=441&placeId=820">Carthage</a> after the battle of Zama, B. C. 202-201.</note>them:—<quote rend="italic">The Carthaginians to retain the towns in <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Libya&groupId=686&placeId=427">Libya</a>, of which they were possessed before they commenced the last war against <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Rome&groupId=935&placeId=1669">Rome</a>, and the territory which they also heretofore held, with its cattle, slaves, and other stock: and from that day should not be subject to acts of hostility, should enjoy their own laws and customs, and not have a Roman garrison in their city.</quote>These were the concessions favourable to them.
