Upon Calynda revolting from Caunus and the Caunians undertaking the siege of the city, the Calyndians at first appealed to <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Cnidus&groupId=481&placeId=902">Cnidus</a> for help.
With the aid of the Cnidians they held out for a time against the enemy,
but fearing for the future decided to send an embassy to <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Rhodes&groupId=931&placeId=1665">Rhodes</a>, to put their city in the hands of the Rhodians.
The Rhodians, sending succour by sea and land, raised the siege and occupied the city,
the possession of which was secured to them by the senate.
