Fragment on pirates

This is from the events preceding the battle of Myonnesus (see previous note). On his way to Teos, where there were reported to be supplies of corn and wine intended for Antiochus, Regillus fell in with 15 ships near Myonnesus 'quas primo ex classe regia praetor esse ratus institit sequi; apparuit deinde piraticas celoces et lembos esse' (Livy, xxxvii. 27. 4), which were returning laden with booty from the Chian shore. As P. records, the pirates fled; they took refuge behind the promontory of Myonnesus, and Regillus' ships dared not approach owing to overhanging cliffs (Livy, xxxvii. 27. 5–8).
