<head>I. Affairs of Italy</head><head>Embassy of the Lacedaemonians to Rome</head>At this time the embassy which the Lacedaemonians had sent to <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Rome&groupId=935&placeId=1669">Rome</a> arrived disappointed in their hopes.
For they had been sent on the subject of the hostages and villages,
but regarding the villages the senate replied that they would give orders to the legates they were sending, and as for the hostages they must consult further about the matter.
As to the old exiles they said they wondered why the Spartans did not call them home, now that <a class="linkToPlace" target="_blank" href="/place?placename=Sparta&groupId=660&placeId=1208">Sparta</a> was free.
