| Title: The Synagogue at Meroth. Does it Fix Israel's Northern Border in Second Temple Times? Secondary Title: BArR Volume: 15 Pages: 20-36 Type: Journal Article Year: 1989 Abstract: "The identification of Josephus' Meroth with the later village of Kfar Marous has been accepted by almost all scholars. The site was on the northern border of Israel in the Second Temple period. The synagogue at Meroth was built at the end of the 4th or the beginning of the 5th century A. D. It shows that the presence of columns cannot be used as a chronological indicator of Galilean synagogues. The Meroth synagogue is unusual for its forecourt, mosaic floor, bronze amulet, raise platform, and hoard of coins". - D.J.H. Keywords: Archaeology, topography, local and regional history |
