M. de in: BJGS 25 (1999/2000), 15-17: "The ten studies in this collection are held together by the common tread of "women's history". Several of them are studies of Greek texts. In one, Ilan looks at the powerful female members of the Hasmonean and Herodian families as portrayed by Josephus, and argues that they are "the literary creations of Nicolaus of Damascus, who wrote drama and firmly believed that women were the root of all evil"".
