| Title: A Pattern of Historical Errors in the Writings of Josephus Secondary Title: Zion Volume: 59 Pages: 357-360 Type: Journal Article Year: 1986 Abstract: "This study points to a pattern of errors committed by Josephus. Two examples are added to the historian's well-known mistake of unintentionally dating documents relating to John Hyrcanus I to the days of John Hyrcanus II. Furthermore, Josephus unwittingly attributes the foundation of Massada to Jonathan the High Priest rather than to King Yannai Alexander, and introduces Judas of Galilee as someone other than Judas son of Hezekiah the Brigand. These errors are all due to Josephus' careless reading of his sources". Keywords: Examination of the Complete work, Jos as historian |
