García in: JSJ 29.4 (1998), 467-468: ""This paper will argue that Goodman's interpretation of the figure of Abraham as proselytizer finds support in the history of exegesis of Gen. 21:33. Not only do pre-Rabbinic interpretations of this scriptural verse fail to present Abraham as a proselytizer [notamment la Septante, le live des Jubilés, Philon et Josèphe], but several Aramaic Targums offer a nuances understanding of Jewish religious proclamation to Gentiles which reflects so some degree the different types of mission (informative, educational, apologetic and proselytizing) which Goodman is so careful to distinguish". Targum Onqelos se limite à traduire le texte hébreu en spécifiant qu'Abraham prie le Seigneur; Pseudo-Jonathan présente Abraham comme un prédicateur qui s'adresse aux gentils et emploie un langage similaire à celui de l'Épître aux Romains, mais il ne parle pas de prosélytisme; seulement le Targum Neofiti et le Targum Fragmentaire font d'Abraham un missionnaire qui essaie de convertir des païens au Juaisme".
