Als quellen lassen sich mindestens zwei ausmachen, eine senatorische und eine pro-claudische, wahrscheinlich auch noch eine jüdische; möglicherweise finden sich sogar noch Spuren von Claudius' Autobiographie".
Hilhorst, A. in: JSJ 28.4 (1997), 472: "Josephus' account of the death of Gaius and the accession of Claudius in Ant. 19,1-273 is not, as is commonly thought, an irrelevant digression deriving from a single source, to wit a Latin senatorial annalist [Cluvius Rufus, according to a majority of scholars]. In fact, "two sources, one senatorial and the other pro-Claudian can be detected in the account of the murder of Gaius and yet another, Jewish and biased towards Agrippa, in the long account of the accession of Claudius.
