The present study examines a number of questions connected with Simon Bar Giora: (a) His social and geographical background: the study examines the various theories raised in this connection. (b) Despite the general agreement among scholars regarding the radical social program supported by Simon Bar Giora, the present study seeks to demonstrate that Josephus' evidence on this matter may be interpreted in various ways. (c) The author examines afresh the evidence of the so-called Messianic aspirations of Simon Bar Giora, and arrives at a negative conclusion". Keywords: History of the Judean War (66-73) |
