Abstract: "Caiaphas is the most prominent Second Temple Jewish personality whose ossuary and remains have been discovered [§§ 36-988, 993]. The involvement of this high priest in handing Jesus vorer to the Romans and persecuting his disciples was more decisive than is commonly believed. Caiaphas probably decided to act because he feared that Jesus' movement ans ist possible success among the people would cause a violent Roman intervention (see Jn 11:47-51)".
