| Title: Studies in Josephus' Rewritten Bible Secondary Title: Supplements to the Journal for the Study of Judaism 58 Type: Book Year: 1998 Abstract: in: NTAb 43.1 (1999), 198: "This collection consists of edited, corrected, and updated versions of thirty-five articles on how Josephus portrayed biblical figures in his Jewish Antiquities that have been published over a period of almost three decades. They concern mankind's decline after creation, Noah, Jethro, Aaron, the Pharaohs, Korah, Balaam, Ehud, Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, Ruth, Joab, Absalom, Jeroboam, Rehoboam, Asa, Ahab, Elijah, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram (King of Israel), Elisha, Jehu, Hezekiah, Isaiah, Jonah, Manasseh, Josiah, Jehoiachin, Zedekiah, Gedaliah, Ezra, Nehemiah, Ahasuerus, and Esther. Also included is a 32-page conclusion that enumerates thirty-nine factors that influenced Josephus in his rewriting of the Bible: non-Jewish audience, Jewish audience, concern with assimilation and intermarriage, respect for the prophets, regard for the priesthood and the Jerusalem Temple, concern to show that biblical heroes are fully comparable to pagan heroes, and so forth. Another collection of Feldman's articles appeared under the title Studies in Hellenistic Judaism (1996)".
