Abstract: McKenzie, Steven L. in: OTA 21.3 (1998), 509: "F's article discusses Josephus' use of Solomon in his Antiquities to counter the accusation that Jews had not produced men of eminence. Josephus depicts Solomon as embodying the four cardinal Hellenistic virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. Especially in his friendship with Hiram Solomon also refutes the charge that Jews were misanthropic. As part of his appeal to a Jewish audience, Josephus retains the biblical story of the harmful results of Solomon's intermarriages. However, Josephus' main objection to these marriages is that they involved Solomon's capitulation to passion and violation of his own country's law".
