In response to these problems, Josephus, on the one hand, accentuates Aaron's virtues, while also eliminating source episodes that reflects badly on him (the Golden Calf incident, Miriam and Aaron's challenge to Moses about his Ethiopian wife, Num 12:1). On the other hand, Josephus throughout plays down the role of Aaron so as to make clear the preeminence of Moses.
