Abstract: Begg, Christopher T. in: OTA 20.2 (1997), 302: "Josephus' literary opponents cited by him in Contra Apionem (CA) advanced their claims about Judaism with a clearly hostile intent. In many instances, however, those claims might well have been taken by pagan readers in a way favorable to the Jews. F. illustrates the point with a consideration of the following items: the antiquity of the Jews, their stubbornness, alleged intolerance, (lack of) virtues, Cleopatra's treatment of them, the rhetoric of Apion's charges, and the character of the Egyptians".
