Abstract: "A discussion of the way in which Josephus seeks, at least partly, to rehabilitate Jehoram, as he also does in the case of two other wicked kings, Ahab and Manasseh. In particular it is argued that Jehoram is presented as the ideal leader who possesses the four cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance and justice, plus the virtue of piety". - M.A. Knibb "The amount of attention that Josephus gave to Jehoram (Joram) in Antiquities 9 in comparison with the biblical accounts about him in 2 Kings is striking. As in the cases of two other wicked kings, Ahab and Manasseh, Josephus sought to rehabilitate Jehoram at least partly. Jehoram takes the lead in allowing his people to plunder the Syrian camp when there is some question as to whether the Syrians have planted a ruse. In addition, Jehoram possesses the cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance, justice, and piety". - D.J.H.
