Abstract: Harrington, Daniel J. in: NTAb 42.2 (1998), 347: "Even though Josephus did not want to treat Jesus in his Antiquities, he was finally induced to do so by his Christian friends. But to avoid irritating anyone and in accord with Domitian, he provided an ironic and double-meaning presentation of Jesus in the so-caked Testimonium Flavianum (Ant. 18:63-64). The first installment analyzes Josephus' statements about Jesus (his appearance and character, extraordinary activities, attractiveness, and messiahship) in the first half of the Testimonium Flavianum in light of this interpretative perspective". Sievers, Joseph in: JSJ 29.2 (1998), 214: "In the beginning Flavius Josephus did not want to treat Jesus in his AJ, but was finally induced to do so by the pressure of his Christian friends. However, to avoid stirring anyone, and in accord with Domitian, he thought about the ironic treatment, the double meaning which the TF reveals from beginning to end [Journal's summary]".
