| Title: Dependence or Common Tradition in Philo Hypothetica VIII 6.10-7.20 and Josephus Contra Apionem 2.190-219 Secondary Title: The Studia Philonica Annual Volume: 5 Pages: 24-47 Type: Journal Article Year: 1993 Abstract: "This investigation aims (1) to assess the traditions within Philo 's Hypothecia 6:10-7:20 and by so doing contribute to the search for traditions, traditional influences, and sources within the Philonic corpus, and (2) to consider the possibility that a source for Josephus' Contra Apionem 2:190-219 was the Hypothetica. It concludes that there is inadeqate evidence to support the view that in his Contra Apionem Josephus used Philo 's Hypothetica as a source for his summary of the Law. It is plausible to accept that the common-source theory best explains the relations between these texts, with the qualification that other sources also played a central role". - C.R.M.
