"References to Josephus should follow the reference system of the Loeb edition (9 vols., 1926 - 1965). In doing research, one often comes across non-standard references and has a hard time tracing the exact citation. The present book includes numerous columns of page and chapter numbers, so that one can easily move from the old Whiston translation (reprinted by Kregel, 1960) to the Loeb, Penguin, and other editions. The 1987 Hendrickson edition with its use to the Whiston text and the Loeb system of section numbers is not represented".
