E 71 Type: Book Year: 1996 Abstract: "After reviewing research on the restrictive measures of the emperor Claudius (A.D. 41-54) against Jews at Rome, this volume presents remarks on Acts as a historical source and an analysis of Acts 18:2. Next it deals with the observation made by Suetonius in Claudius 25.4 (Iudaeos impulsore Chresto addidue tumultuantis Roma expulit), with particular attention to the expression impulsore Chresto. Then it treats the edict of Claudius according to Cassius Dio (60.6.6), and makes connections between the two edicts of Claudius regarding Jews and the beginnings of the Christian mission at Rome. Finally it discusses the introduction of the designation Christiani and the relation of the Roman state to the Christiani in the 1st century A.D.
