Abstract: According to the Biblical account, the extermination of the seven Canaanite nations was due to the Israelites' objection to their practices and the prevention of the Israelites' intermarriage with the Canaanites. Philo did not cite any Biblical passages about the event, even though he thought that innocent people should not pay any price due to the sins of others. Pseudo-Philo also did not mention the event, even though he criticized the intermarriage with the Amalekites. Josephus argued that the seven nations should be destroyed because intermarriage would threaten the ancestral constitution of Israel.
