Abstract: In BJ 4:286-288, Josephus depicted the conflicts between the people of Jerusalem and the Zealots. Both parties interpreted strong weather with an earthquake as a sign of an imminent action of God in rescuing Jerusalem and defeating the enemies outside the city. The interpretation of this motif in the context of the Zion tradition was strongly influenced by Isaiah 29-30.
