Type: Journal Article Year: 2003 Abstract: Feldman analyzes the evidence on the significant increase in the number of Jews between 586 BCE and the 1st century CE, concluding that this increase was caused by voluntary conversion to Judaism. It can be proved by the character of Abraham depicted in midrashic literature, the translation of the Pentateuch into Greek, and other traces in contemporary Graeco-Roman literatures. People were attracted to Judaism for a number of reasons, such as economic advantages. |
