Abstract: Castelli examines the renaissance-translations of the works of Josephus. The author concludes that Christians, Catholic in particular, referred the works as a replacement of the Bible under certain circumstances, because the Bible itself was forbidden to be read or translated in colloquial language. The works of Josephus served also as a handbook of the Jewish story.
