| Title: kehrung von Nichtjuden als (Nicht-)Thema bei Josephus Flavius Secondary Title: Theologische Zeitschrift Volume: 57.4 Pages: 391-401 Type: Journal Article Year: 2001 Abstract: The article examines the views of Lewis H Feldman and others about Josephus' skipping certain statements about the topic of conversion in the Hebrew Bible, which Feldman and others attribute to his Roman readers' opposition towards the conversion to Judaism and the activities of Jewish missionaries. But the article argues that this reason does not explain other parts in his writings that mentioned conversion, circumcision and missionary activities. Therefore, it is necessary to find out other motives that Josephus omits certain passages about the issues of conversion. Process of development of Josephus' Antiquities should be taken into consideration in explaining the reasons. |
