Abstract: The author analyzes the speech of Herod the Great about the client king's intention to enlarge the Temple, showing how his propaganda was shaped. Similar to the rabbinic views, Josephus admired the work of Herod on the Temple. But Josephus' account was obviously not a good historical measure of Herod, given that it was not likely that Herod, in reality, would sought for the agreement of the population, especially that of the Pharisees, on the construction of the Temple.
