| Title: Matching theory and practice; Josephus's constitutional ideal and Paul's strategy in Corinth Secondary Title: Paul Beyond the Judaism/Hellenism Divide. Pages: 139-163 Type: Book Section Year: 2001 Abstract: Barclay explores the question whether Paul's strategies in church development can be analyzed in terms of social formation process. The Graeco-Roman tradition of political philosophy and its emphasis on civic institution can help us to understand Paul's strategy. The broad analysis of constitution can help us understand it as a less complicated social entity than state. Josephus' Against Apion, which shares four similar ideas with Paul, may be able to serve as a comparative example of the analysis. Keywords: Hellenism; Against Apion; Corinthians; law |
