Abstract: In AJ 1: 17, Josephus claimed that he did not modify the Scriptures, even though he actually did so. Antiquities was actually Josephus' interpretation on the Bible rather than as an accurate representation of the Scriptures. Josephus' ways of representing the Scriptures involved both being faithful to the original texts and transforming them to fit the context that they would be read. Josephus' contradiction on his aims and his actual methodology was consistent with the ancient citation and translation technique as well as the philosophy of languages.
