| Title: On the two conceptions of just war in the "Jewish Antiquities" of Flavius Josephus Secondary Title: Revue des Etudes Anciennes Volume: 103,3-4 Pages: 485-495 Type: Journal Article Year: 2001 Abstract: The concepts of just war and the conditions for divine help in warfare were reflected in Josephus' Antiquities. In Greek thoughts, divine help was given to those who followed the rules of war. But in the Hellenistic Jewish ideology, the condition of divine help was moral perfection. Josephus attempted to introduce the Jewish concepts to the Greek readers without abandoning the Greek ideas, and therefore he upheld the Greek concept higher than the Jewish one.
