| Title: Philo, Pseudo-Philo, Josephus, and Theodotus on the rape of Dinah Secondary Title: Jewish Quarterly Review Volume: 94,2 Pages: 253-277 Type: Journal Article Year: 2004 Abstract: Philo admired Zemri due to his zeal for God. He justified the manner Zemri acted and the rewards given to him by God. Philo represented Phinehas as a symbol of the work of priesthood and of the importance of loyalty to God. Josephus faced the dilemma whether he should admire Phinehas, who committed behaviour similar to that of the Zealots. He played down the revolutionary aspects of Phinehas and stressed the danger of intermarriage instead. |
