According to Rabbinic traditions, Egyptians deserved to die because they hated the Israelites, and their animals should die too because they were worshipped by people. Philo claimed that the first born were associated with their Egyptian parents, and the animals were only created for the sake of people. Josephus also came across this topic, and he claimed that many Egyptians actually urged the Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave. |
