| Title: The portrayal of Phinehas by Philo, Pseudo-Philo, and Josephus Secondary Title: Jewish Quarterly Review Volume: 92,3-4 Pages: 315-345 Type: Journal Article Year: 2002 Abstract: Philo claimed that Moses initially planned to reward Phinehas but he was stopped by God. Ps-Philo identified Phinehas as Elijah, because God sent an angel to save Phinehas when the Israelites planned to kill him. Josephus admired Phinehas but did not mention Phinehas' action against Zimri and Cozbi, due to the similarities of his action with the Zealots' behaviour. |
