Abstract: The article analyzes Josephus' suicide reports in comparison with the suicide accounts written by active writes during the Flavian age. Josephus did not mention much whether martyrdom was an indigenous Jewish concept or a result of the Jewish interaction with Graeco-Roman culture. But voluntary death was a reflection of courage among both the Jews and the Romans.
