Abstract: The centrality of the land of Israel in world politics was represented in AJ 11-17. Mendels shows an outsider's view on Palestine from the perspectives of the ancient empires. Reality shows that the Land of Israel was not central at all in international politics, but it was still represented by Josephus as a theological and political entity.
