Antiquities was characterized by his hostile accounts on Herod, which were based on his own observation about Herod's personality. The article discussed about Herod's actions in violating Jewish laws. In War, Josephus mainly followed the accounts of Nicolas of Damascus, and Herod was depicted as someone who took priority on his interest in Rome on top of his concerns for any possible violation of Jewish laws and customs. But when the situations were not crucial for his survival, Herod went for his own direction without directly clashing with the majority of the Jewish population.
