| Title: The figure of Apion in Josephus' "Contra Apionem" Secondary Title: Journal for the Study of Judaism Volume: 36,3 Pages: 278-315 Type: Journal Article Year: 2005 Abstract: Comparing Josephus' depiction on Apion with other ancient testimonies, Jones shows that Josephus aimed at attacking Apion's ethnicity when he obscured the distinction between the Alexandrian Greek cultural identity and his Egyptian origins. Josephus attempts to construct an ideal opponent that his readers would not sympathize with.
