The author claims that the accounts of Philo and Josephus were based on one common Hellenistic Jewish source. But Hippolytus' account (Haer 9.18.2-29.4) was simply Josephus' BJ 2:119-166, and Hippolytus reshaped Josephus' accounts with his own apologetic interests, style and theology.
