| Title: The dream of Alexander in Josephus "Ant." 11.325-39 Secondary Title: Journal for the Study of Judaism Volume: 34,4 Pages: 425-442 Type: Journal Article Year: 2003 Abstract: Two divinely inspired dreams were used as the element to resolve the tension between Alexander the Great and Jaddua the Jewish high priest during their meeting. Kim argues that the account was actually a mixture of propagandistic elements rather than as a single type of the soteriological epiphany as is defined by S J D Cohen, whose classification relies heavily on the function of Alexander's dream narrative in a larger context. Kim claims that the content of the dream narrative was not soteriological but should rather be seen as a propagandistic divine legitimization of his conquest.
