| Title: Did all Jews think alike? "Covenant" in Philo and Josephus in the context of Second Temple Judaic religion Secondary Title: The Concept of the Covenant in the Second Temple Period Pages: 251-266 Type: Book Section Year: 2003 Abstract: Grabbe analyzes the concept of covenant and its significance in the works of Philo and Josephus. Philo used the word covenant very often but his uses of the word were obviously affected by his Hellenistic background. Josephus avoided using the term even in his discussions about the Biblical passages that mentioned God?s covenant. Grabbe thus concludes that Philo and Josephus did not view the concept as a significant one and did not use it as a way to conceptualize their religious views.
