Abstract: "Begg, Christopher T. in: OTA 20,3 (1997) 508-509: V. surveys a range of questions concerning the Dead Sea Scrolls and scholarly views concerning these: the finding of the scrolls, the site Khirbet Qumran, the connection between the scrolls and Khirbet Qumran (V. aligns himself with the view of N. Golb that the bulk of the scrolls were brought to the caves where they were found from elsewhere in the land of Israel to safeguard them from the advancing Romans), the date and authorship of the scrolls, the Qumran biblical texts, the doctrines of the scrolls in relation to those of the NT. V. conclude that the scrolls do provide a great enrichment concerning, e.g., our knowledge of the text of the OT and the milieu out of which Christianity emerged. His discussion is accompanied b< three charts, these comparing Josephus' statements about the Essenes and the prescriptions of the Qumran Rule of the Community, the Qumran community meal and the NT Lord's Supper, and the similarities and differences between Qumran and Christianity."
