Abstract: "Ruiz, Jean-Pierre in: OTA 20,3 (1997) 441: V. presents the work of four authors whose work attests to two opposite positions about the 4QSama reading in 1 Sam 10:27-11:1. F.M. Cross and T.L. Eves hold that its reading is original, while A. Rofé and S. Pisano defend the originality of the MT. V.'s analysis concludes that the problematic expression found in 10:27b, wayehi kemaharis, depicts Saul's attitude in the face of his enemies and is part of the tradition about Saul's opponents found in 10:27, 11:12-13. The MT is not corrupt here. The reading in 4QSama reflects the editorial activity of a scribe. The LXX reading originated form a confusion tat he level of its Hebrew Vorlage, between the letters daleth and resh, this resulting in the text: kai egenethe hos meta mena (= wyhy kmw hds). The Qumran scribe had this Hebrew text before him, into which he inserted the account of the first campaign of Nahash against the tribes of Reuben and Gad. Slightly modified and without mention of the seven thousand men who escaped from Reuben and Gad, this account recurs in Josephus (Ant. 6.66-72), where it is probably based on a text similar to the LXX."
