L. H. Schiffman's view that 4QMMT is a Sadducean document [§§ 35-407, 906-907] is implausible. The sparse data used by him is better explained by the similar origins of the Essenes and the Sadducees in the priestly class of Judea and by their common opposition to the Pharisaic amelioration of some laws and penalties."
