Abstract: "Dutcher-Walls, Patricia in: OTA 22,2 (1999) 353-354: This revised doctoral dissertation from the Gregorian University consists of two parts. Part one comprises three chapters devoted to the exegesis and multiple interpretations of Psalm 8 in the Jewish tradition, including those found in the Targumic versions, the Peshitta, Philo of Alexandria; Josephus, and various Midrashim. The second part's four chapters analyzes the NT interpretations of Psalm 8 as found in four main passages (Matt 21:16; 1 Cor 15:27; Heb 2:5-18; and Eph 1:22). A final chapter summarizes U.'s results according to which an OT hymn of praise with messianic overtones became re-interpreted in Christian circles via a ""Christo-ecclesiological"" hermeneutics. U.'s method is traditional form and literary criticism utilizing Gerhard von Rad's hermeneutical hypothesis, as developed and applied by Prosper Grech, i.e., OT prophetic words were regularly adapted by< successive generations of interpreters for new readings of familiar texts (relectures). There are footnotes and a selected bibliography, but no indexes."
