| Title: The Qumran text of Samuel and Josephus: Secondary Title: HSM 19 Type: Generic Year: 1978 Abstract: "The main purpose of this dissertation by a pupil of F. M. Cross is to demonstrate the dependence of Josephus for the Samuel portion of his Antiquities on the proto-Lucianic Greek text, and to show that it is very close to the Hebrew text of 4Q Sam a. That, however, involves discussion of many related problems surrounding the early history of the Hebrew and Greek texts of Samuel, introduced by a helpful and clear chapter setting out the history of the problem. Although Ulrich provides us with the largest number of readings of 4Q Sam a so far available, he admits that some may need to be revised after the publication of the official edition, already far too long delayed. Evaluation of this work must thus be suspended for the time being, even though there is a limited usefulness in such an ""unofficial"" publication of new readings. // Der Vf. widmet sich dem Studium von 4Q Sam a mit dem Ziel, den Text diese Qumran-Handschrift zu charakterisierend und sein Verhältnis zum masoretischen Text, zu verschiedenen Gestalten der griechischen Übersetzung und zur Erzählung von Josephus in seinen ""Jüdischen Altertümern"" zu untersuchen. Er kommt zu dem Ergebnis daß die Fragmente 4Q Sam a bei 144 Lesarten mit der griechischen Version und nicht mit dem MT übereinstimmen. Der griechische Text 2 Sam 10,1 1 Kön 2,11 scheint die kaige-Rezension der altgriechischen/protolukianischen Testgestalt darzustellen; dieser altgriechische/protolukianische Text befindet sich prinzipiell in den Mss boe2e2. Der Qumran-Text zeigt sich näher dem vom Autor der Chronikbücher benutzten Sam als dem TM. Auch Josephus gebrauchte einen Text, der ""strikingly close"" 4Q Sam a war; er war in griechischer Sprache, stand nahe der altgriechisch/protolukianischen Textgestalt und hielt Abstand zu MT sowie zu den kaige- und hexaplarischen Rezensionen.
