| Title: Images of Judaism in Luke-Acts Type: Generic Year: 1992 Abstract: "Tyson, author of The Death of Jesus in Luke-Acts (1986) and editor of Luke-Acts and the Jewish People: Eight Critical Perspectives (1988), first establishes that the implied reader of Lk-Acts is similiar to the God-fearers, i.e. Gentiles who are attracted to Judaism but nut fully committed to it. Then he examines how Lk-Acts leads the implied reader to think of the Jewish people and their religious life according to the following outline: infancy narratives (Lk 1-2); Jesus in Galilee, Samaria and Judea (Lk 3:1-19:44); Jesus in Jerusalem (Lk 19:45-24:53); the first Christians in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria (Acts 1-12); the Pauline missions (Acts 13:1-21:14) and Paul in Jerusalm, Caesarea and Rome (Acts 21:15-28:31). Tyson concludes that the purpose of Lk-Acts is to persuade God-fearers to accept the Christian message about Jesus rather than Judaism." Keywords: New Testament / Early Christianity |
