Abstract: "Post-War Polish discussion (both Catholic and Marxist) of Josephus' testimony to the historical existence of Jesus centers especially on Ant. 18:63-64; the Testimonium Flavianum. Influenced by S. Pines's 1971 study of the Arabic version, Russian Marxists now believe the text is partially interpolated. That the text is totally authentic or a total interpolation is increasingly doubted, an opinion that will surely influence Polish Marxist scholars. - J.P. // The author deals with the discussion on pertinent passages of Josephus Flavius in Polish and Soviet scholarly and popular literature. The views of both clerical and Marxist authors are briefly presented. The impact of A. Robertons's work on the origins of Christianity is evident. Soviet scholars seem to be changing their highly negative opinion of Flavius' transmissions, looking for some truth in them. Polish Catholic scholars accept partial interpolation in the Testimonium Flavianum, especially after S. Pines's publication of the Arabic version of Antiq. 18,3,3. In this context the Polish Marxist religiologists' view that the passage is entirely spurious seems to be outdated."
