| Title: Profetyzm w´sród esse´nczyków [Prophetism among the Essenes] Pages: 205-212 Type: Generic Year: 1996 Abstract: "Kapera, Zdzislaw J. in: JSJ 29,3 (1998) 349: Eugeniusz Szewc reminds us that Josephus Flavius, Philo of Alexandria, Hippolytus of Rome and Epiphanius confirmed the existence of prophets among the Essenes. He analyses the prophetic self-awareness of the Essenes in the Qumran texts. It is evident that the Teacher of Righteousness was taken for the Lord's prophet among them. The statements of the Old Testament prophets became clear with the Teacher's comments and explanations. Thanks to their deep study of Holy Scripture, the Essenes were able to foretell the future. In the Qumran texts the Essenes were describing themselves as ""seers"" and ""ones having visions""." Keywords: Groups and Religious Movements in Palestinian Judaism |
