Abstract: Harrington, Daniel J. in: NTAb 43.3 (1999), 541: "The article investigates Josephus' treatment of the biblical presentations concerning David's heroes (see 2 Sam 21:15-22; 23:8-23; 1 Chron 20:4-8; 11:10-25) in Antiquities 7:298-317 under five headings: David endangered, a first trio of heroes, a second trio/duo of heroes, David's wish for water, and two final heroes. It concludes that Josephus drew on texts of both 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles whose affinities were more with the Septuagint than with the Masoretic text, used various rewriting techniques, highlights the stature of David in bonam partem, an recognized the story's potential to speak to both Jews and Gentiles".
