| Title: Some remarks on Josephus' biblical text for 1-2 Kings Secondary Title: SBL SCSt 23 Pages: 277-285 Type: Generic Year: 1987 Abstract: "The author's examination begins with some brief comments on the history of the question then goes on to offer some observations about Josephus' use of the bible that cloud the issue (e.g. his paraphrasing). Spottorno limits her task to Antiquities VI-VII where Josephus is dependent on 1-2 Kings. She concludes that 1. ""we should leave aside the idea that Josephus ""used"" the Hebrew text"" because agreements with it are rare and can be explained by Josephus' knowledge of the Hebrew text. Beyond that, 2. Agreements with the Lucianic type of text are more frequent than with the Septuagint text." Keywords: Relation of Josephus to Hebrew Bible, Septuagint, and Rabbinic Literature |
