// Some details in the Genesis account of Sarah and Abraham's marriage were embarrassing to men in the Hellenistic age (i.e. a man taking order from his wife). Faced with scriptural evidence that Abraham did indeed obey his wife, Philo resorted to several tactis: allegory, denial of Sarah's womanhood/wifehood, and subtle reconstructions of details in the story. Josephus employs the third stategy (Ant. 1:187). The author of 1 Peter may have been more deliberate in reinterpreting the story in 1 Pet 3:6 than M. Kiley (§32-1282] would allow. - C.R.M."
